Cutout

About Cutout

Cutout is a free, browser-based tool for removing the background from a photo. You upload an image, the subject gets automatically separated from whatever is behind it, and you get back a PNG with a transparent background, ready to drop onto a white product listing, a colored slide, or anything else.

It's built for the everyday cases where someone needs a clean cutout fast and doesn't want to install desktop photo-editing software or learn a masking tool: a seller prepping a product photo for a marketplace listing, someone making a profile picture, a small business owner putting together a flyer, or a student needing a clean image for a school project.

How it works

When you upload a photo, it's sent securely over HTTPS to Cutout's backend, which uses an image-processing service to detect the main subject of the photo and separate it from the background automatically. The result comes back as a PNG with real alpha transparency, meaning the areas outside your subject are genuinely transparent, not just filled in white or gray.

After that first automatic pass, Cutout also includes a manual "touch up" brush directly in the browser, so you can erase small missed spots or restore anything that got cut away by mistake, without needing a second upload or a separate editor.

Who built this and why

Cutout was built as a simple, focused alternative to bulkier photo editing suites for the one specific job of background removal. The goal is a tool that works in one click, doesn't require an account, and doesn't leave a watermark on your image.

Cost and how the site supports itself

Cutout is free to use. There is no subscription, no watermark, and no signup requirement. The site is supported by advertising rather than a paywall, which is disclosed in the Privacy Policy, along with exactly what's collected and why.
